Nesting aids support the wildlife conservation programme for storks
Due to the fact that often storks sat high up on the pillars of the old gas storage facility in Memmingen, the idea came up to provide nesting aids there. Expert advisors from the State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation confirmed that the planned site would meet the requirements.
Back in the 1980s, storks were considered threatened in Bavaria. With the help of the Bavarian wildlife conservation aid programme and the provision of nesting aids it was possible to increase the species protection.
To achieve this, the storks had to be provided with a sufficiently large and stable area for their nests at more than 10 metres height. The solution implemented by ematec seems to have been a success: after just a short time, new stork nests developed on the 24 metres high platforms.
